I was completely baffled as to how to install the bike rack (given as a gift) onto my car.
Hooray for online instruction manuals!
I think I did it! I was also pleased that I was able to do this the night before.
It also took me some time figuring out how to load my bike, AND muster up the strength to get it up there.
It wasn't falling on my head even after shaking it vigorously, so I guess that was a good sign.
I wasn't the only one on my way to the Tour De Doughnut.
It was my first time securing my bike to the back of my car rather than just stuffing it in the trunk, so I kept my eye on my bike the whole time, praying it wouldn't fall off.
The fog thickened considerably on the way there. I could hardly see street signs, and sure enough, missed my exit.
This normally obvious-from-the-freeway sign was only visible at 20 feet away that morning.
Lots of people are ready to go. I got to see lots of cool bikes.
Cynthia makes sure Ivonne and Mahesh have their timer anklebands.
Cynthia has a funny face in each of these following pictures. Here, she looks super serious ...
Here she looks like she's adjusting her helmet fit ...
Me and Miffy all the way, yo! (Taken by cute guy next to me in the horde of bicyclists)
"Cynthia's Moochine" was painted like cowprint. How cute!
My view facing the starting line.
My view looking back from where I was. Cynthia's looking funny again :)
Cynthia's trademark look! :)
Roadkill. Blecch.
I was taking my sweet time because well, I was not in a hurry and didn't feel like hurting myself. From the get go, I got used to seeing people's backsides from passing me up.
I saw all sorts o' fun bikes.
Uh oh. Tire trouble. Man, these people were well prepared, with spare tubes 'n tires and whatnot. I, on the other hand, had nothing except a bottle o' water for my thirst ...
I'm pretty sure I was abiding by the speed limit.
What plant?!
Out on the open country road ...
More fun bikes.
Inspirational sign.
Rest stop one. Doughnut time!
You know you're deep in the heart of Texas when you're at a place called Moore's Double Horn Grill.
Loadin' up on doughnuts. For each doughnut consumed, you get a 5-minute credit towards your overall real finishing time.
Me piggin' out on doughnuts.
Cynthia and Ivonne help me pump up my tires, as they were a little flat. So THAT'S why I was going so slow! Hahahah yeah right. :)
The only time I was ahead of Mahesh, Ivonne, and Cynthia, and I stop to take pictures.
Cynthia and Ivonne wave for the camera :)
Cynthia and Ivonne admonished me to concentrate on the ride and make sure I didn't go the 55-mi route. Oh man, that would've been the death of me.
A really old, rotting sign advertising a judge's services for marriage ceremonies.
Dozier's Dear Processing. Ew.
Right next door to Dozier's Deer Processing was Dozier's BBQ. EW!
Another Ride Marshal passing me up.
Cows.
A sign for "Geophysical Water Wells".
Horsies!
This cute little girl was ahead of me for most of the ride.
People's hanging laundry.
Old-fashioned mailboxes.
Trees of all colors.
"The Hay Man"
Approaching I-10 - actually, I had been here earlier in the morning when I passed up my exit and was trying to turn around.
A run-down looking Charlie's Hamburgers & Mexican Grill. The back of the yellow sign said, "Over 2 Dozen Sold!"
Selling sweet potatoes on the side of the road.
Which way to go? So many signs.
Rest stop 2. They'd been resting for awhile before my slow arse finally got there.
Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Mmm.
A LOT of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Ew.
Someone thought it would be funny to alter that "Glasses $59" sign ... hahaha.
Gloomy clouds, bales of hay.
Long stretch o' road. Are we there yet?
Are we there yet?!
Signs protesting the building of an airport in Katy, TX.
Oh no! AN UPHILL up ahead!!
RV heaven.
This is perhaps the only time I'll ever be riding on the feeder road of a major highway.
Ah. Approaching the exit. Yay! We're almost there!
Almost there! And boy did the weather ever lighten up since the morning.
The finish line is in sight! Almost ... there ... made it!!
Ivonne does her best impression of an acupuncture patient.
Mahesh, Ivonne, Cynthia, and me! We are the champions, lah lah lah lah lah!
At Target, I saw a woman with a dog in her bag. Cute, but he doesn't look too pleased to be slung around in there ...
boy's mouth and hairy arms.
Proof that boy had eaten here.
