Cars!

Freecar - get a free car that's covered in ads for 2 years, with free regularly scheduled maintenance. Or, you use your existing car and get it covered with ads and they pay you a certain amount each month until the advertiser doesn't want to pay anymore. What you give them: you fill out a 7-page-long questionnaire. You agree to drive the ad-covered car every day. Other costs: you pay for your own gas. Catch(es): You must switch to their insurance provider, who they claim have as good if not better rates than many insurance companies out there.

Homepage Building Tools!

Webspace

Dean Liou Consulting - now this isn't free, but if you like how fast my pages are loading up and you need a reliable home for your webpage, check him out. Fast servers, reasonable prices, and best of all, prompt, courteous service. Not just for webspace either - he can provide the whole networking service package.

Domain Names

Namezero - get your own domain name, domain e-mail, domain forwarding. Catch: customary selling of soul by giving them info about yourself, at the bottom of your page there will be a frame with advertising (the "Namezero NavBar"), and it takes 6-8 wks to process. See example: www.howiesun.com. Thanks Howie.

Long Distance

PC-to-Phone Calling

Phone-to-Phone Calling

50 minute Phone Card from Tel3.com - you get a 50-minute phone card mailed to you. Catch: gotta provide personal info, subscribe to their newsletter, AND give 'em your credit card number ("for verification purposes" since they only give one calling card per credit card #).

Wake-up Calls

iPing - a very cool service where you can set up wake-up calls for yourself. Personalize what you wake up to (news, jokes, etc.). Also, you can set up reminder calls about those important dates, or just to remind you to take your medicine, or have iPing call a whole bunch of people at once to invite them to a party ... the possibilities are endless, and best of all, it's completely free!

Movie Rentals

Netflix - DVD rental service. 1st month membership free, and $19.95/mo after that. A great idea if you watch a lot of movies. How it works: pick out DVDs. They send you the DVDs. Have up to 3 movies on hand. No due dates or late fees. When you're done, send 'em back (in postage-paid envelopes) and they'll send you the next movies in your list. Helpful Hint: save even more $ by splitting the subscription cost with friends so everyone can see the movies. =)

Points Rewards Programs!

These usually entail surfing partner sites from their sites to earn points (the truly free way to get free stuff, but also the slowest), or buying stuff from partner sites to earn points (faster). Rewards include gift certificates for a wide variety of merchants (handy for holiday gift-giving), movie rentals, plane tickets,

Join the MyPoints Program. Earn free rewards!MyPointsŪ *da Queen's pick* - this program is still going strong. I've gotten many gift certificates which have come in really handy for holiday gift-giving. Quirk with this link: it's gonna open up in a new window and possibly give you an error msg. Just go to the URL in the Location bar and hit "Enter" and the proper page should load up. Thanks!

Milesource - points that can get you discounts / free plane tickets if you accumulate enough points, as well as a lot of other things, like movie tickets, movie rentals, etc.

FreeRide - unfortunately, this awesome service is "temporarily" down (yeah right). Well, if you ever see it back in action, lemme know! I've gotten plenty of free CDs from this points program in the past.

Rebates!

CyberRebate - Tons of good stuff 100% free after rebate, plus free shipping. Rebates generally take about 3 months. Catch: a lot of the items are marked up unbelievably high (ie. a CD costs $65, but is free after rebate), so you're gonna have a large sum of money tied up for about 3 months. So make sure you really really want it. =) Unexpected Update: Cyberrebate filed for bankruptcy May 16, 2001.

RiteAid - check out their stuff that's free after rebate online, make a shopping list, check the store locator, then go and get it! RiteAid now offers online rebate submissions, which means no more postage, no more UPC clipping, and no more photocopying all your stuff for submission, plus you get your rebate check in under a month rather than waiting 3 months! Catch: must shop in the actual brick-and-mortar store.

Walgreens, Eckerd's - both of these stores also offer excellent rebate programs. Catch: must shop in the actual brick-and-mortar store.
