iHaTePiNk.com! - My DIY Bicycle Camera Mount
oh the blinding pinkness

So I was going on a bike ride, and wanted to record video while doing so.

I was gonna buy the Flip Action Mount (marketed as an accessory with the Flip Ultra / Mino) and was also thinking about a Gorillapod ...

Then I chanced upon Camera Hacker's site with instructions and other links on how to make your own!

I read it excitedly, but realized that I had no access to power tools in the time frame that I had (2 hrs), plus I wouldn't know how to use them anyway, and almost dismissed the idea from my mind.

Well, on a lark, I still went to the dollar store as Camera Hacker suggests for the first piece in his bicycle camera mount. I realized with dismay that 1. they didn't carry anything like he said, and 2. I didn't remember any other details, and didn't have time to go back and look them up, ie. like what size screw fits into the camera tripod mount hole thingy!!

With sheer dumb luck I bought a few pieces, brought them home, and made my own within 45 mins, a little over a dollar's worth of materials, and with minimal tools.

Materials:

1. Ghetto-looking hose clamp that happened to have just the right size screw for mounting a camera (2-pack; $1.09)
2. Ghetto rubber chair foot covers (4-pack; $1.09)

The result:

You know I'm all about the g-h-e-t-t-o, but this doesn't look half bad, if I do say so myself. :) [ get the play-by-play with commentary on the DIY project here ] [ resulting footage that catches me biting it on my way home after the ride ]

Yours is a pretty good design, considering how stable it was in your fall. You'd hardly guess that there's a person lying hurt on the ground, because the camera movement was so smooth. It's almost like someone just held the camera and was acting like they were falling.

However, I must introduce you to the joy that comes from making things with cable ties. Quick, easy, scratch-free, and in a pinch, you can use them to fight crime. They are everything a tool should be. :) If you're interested in a version 2, you might consider incorporating them.

i know it's not nice to laugh at someone else's pain but BLAHAHAHA!

Ingenious little contraption you got there. It's like your own little episode of Cops! Except it's... Caro!

Eddy: I am curious by what you have in mind that would include cable ties. There is no way I'd use anything that didn't include a screw mount to secure the camera. Also, I am very curious as to how cable ties would be able to fight crime in a pinch :)

annie: 'tis okay. I made Tree Frog watch the video while on the phone and I got his full-fledged and unabashed BUAHAHAHAHHAHAA straight up. He even watched it again and with the exact same loud guffawing.

Heh. My contraption was a great conversation-starter. Teehee. ;)

Also, I fully expect you to sing me this personalized Cops anthem for me next time I see you. :)
