How do you pronounce these words:

"shone", "contribute", "distribute", and "terrain"?

If you can, write out the emphasized syllable in CAPS and write it out as closely to other words as possible, ie. i say Canuck = kahNUK.

These are the only ones I can think of that people have laughed at me about. If you have pointed out my supposedly weird pronunciation of other words, please feel free to point them out. :)

Yeah, I hate to break it to you, but none of us can understand anything you say. All of us have just learned how to read lips and nod politely at the appropriate moments. ;)

Seriously, I don't think you have much of an accent. In fact, I would recommend that you embrace your Canadian-ness and start adding 'eh?' to the end of every sentence. We need more diversity around here - the percentage of Canucks is far too low. Advertise it! Flaunt it! Make it a trend!

Do Canadians do the same thing as the British and spell everything with an extra 'u'? I did that briefly as a sixth grader when I read the whole Lord of the Rings series over Christmas Break. I did very poorly on a spelling test on the first day I got back, and that fixed it. Colour, flavour, honour, behaviour... What kind of sick bastard puts all of these same words on one test?

the kind of sick bastard who wants to test spelling of words ending in "-ior"...

I remember in grade school we had the exact same test except it was for "-tion". We even heard a song about the suffix "-tion" on Schoolhouse Rock. Or was it Electric Company? All I remember was "T I O N!" "shun, shun, shuuun shun!"

Eddy: well, here in the US, everyone seems to spell everything missing that "u" ... :)

Thanks guys. I will be speaking other languages to you from now on since my English sucks so bad ... ly. :)

Oh, and my answers to the words above:

"shone": I say "shawn"

"contribute": I say KONtriBYOOT

"distribute": I say DIStriBYOOT

"terrain": I say TARE-ren

"complacent": gosh, I don't know what I say anymore, I've been made fun of this one so much hehe. I think I say kumPLAYsent? kumPLAHsent?

According to m-w.com (merriam webster online) my very much ridiculed pronunciations often show up with a italicized "brit" beside them. I'm not wrong, I'm just ... a Canuck. :)
